Definitions of Common Terms
acuminate tip - tip of the leaf tapering to a long point
acute tip - the apex or tip of the leaf ends in a point (as opposed to being rounded)
axil - the angle formed between the upper side of a leaf/leaf petiole and the branch or twig that it is growing from
elliptic - leaf shape resembling an oval
entire margin - leaf edge that is smooth/unbroken without any indentations, teeth, or lobes
evergreen - plant type which retains foliage throughout the yeae
multistemmed - having more than one primary stem or trunk originating at or near the ground
obtuse (leaf tip) - leaf tip is blunt with angle greater than 90 degrees
opposite branching - arrangement of woody branches and leaves to occur directly across from one another on the stems they originate from, appearing as pairs.
ovate - leaf shape resembling an egg, widest at base/stem narrowest at tip
recumbent margin - edges of the leaf are curved/rolled downward
simple - leaf type with a single blade, lobes or indentations do not extend to the midrib - contrast with compound leaves
